An interesting item of ephemera from the Clitheroe and Longridge area of Lancashire.
This is a jacket for copies of the Radio Times or TV Times. From the heading it appears that this was distributed by local newsagents and the various companies who advertised in it.
The jacket was obviously distributed in the Clitheroe, Longridge and Grimsargh areas of Lancashire as all of the adverts are for companies in those towns.
It is undated but looking at the illustrations in the adverts I would imagine that it dates from around 1957 or 58. One of the pictures is of a Vauxhall Cresta PA which was brought out in 1957. The other pictures are of earlier planes etc. There is the number 102 at the top, this could have been an issue number.
Most of the businesses who have advertised on the jacket probably no longer exist. Is there still a James Hargreaves, Motor Engineer in Longridge, or the Elite Radio Company in Clitheroe or J F & M B Braithwaite at the Handy Shop, an ironmongers in Grimsargh?
The jacket does give a very good picture of the range of businesses in these towns.
The size is approx 315 x 260mm and is on a medium weight card. It comprises 4 sides with a fold in the centre. The size means that it has to be posted as a small parcel and not a large letter.
There is creasing of the corners etc and overall it is a bit grubby but it is still in pretty good condition for its age.
A very good item for anyone with an interest in the local history of the towns.
