A pair of original Bakelite cupboard or drawer handles from the 1930's or 40's.
2 colour design they feature an ivory coloured rose with a contrasting faux tortoiseshell celluloid band to the front face and a similar backplate. The 2 sections are offset by decorative metal stands.
The main rose is 5.5cm diameter and the back plate is 8cm wide and 2cm high. Overall projection is 3cm and the hole centres are 3.7cm. Complete with original threaded rods, 3 original fixing nuts with 1 later replacement. Maximum wood thickness for fixing 1.8cm.
Interestingly the roses are identical to that used on a door knob that I have listed separately.
There is no maker's details but on the back of the rose it is marked "Made in England".
Nothing to indicate a date, but the design and materials are very typical of the 1930's or 40's.
They have been used and so there are slight signs of wear and they are a bit grubby. I try not to over clean my handles and leave them slightly 'as found' so that customers can see that they are authentic and not reproduction.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
