A very unusual small Bakelite lidded box.
Oval in shape it has a mathematical equation on the lid. The equation is currently known as Quick Maths but this box predates that description by probably 70+ years.
It also has what could be seen as a tablet and mouse on the lid, but again it predates computers so is probably an old school writing slate and sponge.
Made of a multicolour Bakelite in a mix of brown, mustard, terracotta and green it is 7cm long on the major axis and 3.5cm high. The lid is larger than the main box and slightly domed.
Being quite small I am puzzled as to what this box was originally used for.
On the underside it has 2 small circles, 1 containing the letters DR and the other GM, presumably this is the manufacturer.
Nothing to date it but looking at the materials, the design of the lid and the wear on the underside I would estimate that it is from the 1930's but could be earlier
It has been used and so there is some light scratching on the underside but overall it is in very good condition.
Overall the design of this box and what it was used for is a bit of a puzzle, if anyone can throw any light on its background I would love to hear it.
