An old sewing companion produced to advertise the Co-operative Wholesale Society, CWS. Difficult to put an age on this, but I would think it dates from the 1900's or 1910's.
The set comprises an outer metal case inside which is a thimble and a wooden reel with 3 colours of cotton. Inside the reel is a metal capped needle holder, although there are no needles in this.
The top of the holder has the wording "Buy everything C.W.S." running around it. On the bottom part of the case it says "foreign", which I find unusual as the CWS generally made all their own products at their factories around the country.
The outer case is plated metal, although much of the plating has worn off over time. There are some small dents in the case but this is consistent with the age of the companion.
The cylindrical case is 45mm high with a diameter of 18mm.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
