This bakelite box was used by a photographer to hold the type needed to print titles onto photographs.
Inside there are slots to hold the individual letters, some of which are still in the case. There is also a metal frame to hold the type during the printing. The lid is quite thick and does have a removeable panel and so perhaps this was also used to hold type.
On the lid is a brand name that I think is Bradiua, I have tried to research this name but have not come up with anything.
There is nothing to give any clues as to its age but at a guess it is from the 1930's or 40's. At that time this was probably an essential piece of a photographer's equipment.
Overall it is in good condition, there is a very small crack on the rear just under the hinge but this is not noticeable.
