A copy of "Adams Illustrated Guide to Rye" published by Adams of Rye Ltd in 1960. Originally published in 1934 this is the 13th edition.
Comprising 96 pages the guide gives details of the town of Rye and the surrounding areas and was intended for holidaymakers visiting East Sussex. There are details of the town, its history and the facilities available for tourists. In addition there are numerous adverts for local businesses as well as adverts for the hotels and guest houses. At the back of the guide is a fold-out map of the town.
Although this book was published in 1960 it is an update of an earlier edition and has the feel of a much older guide. The photographs are all in black and white at a time when most guide books were introducing a lot of colour to their guides.
The guide is 185 x 125mm with thin card covers.
It has been used and so there is some creasing to the covers and rounding of the page corners generally. Small tears to back cover together with signs that the cover has been damp at some stage.
