Bakelite rise and fall pendant light fitting

This bakelite 'rise and fall' light fitting dates from the 1920's. It comes complete with the original flex and lamp holder, although the lamp holder will need to be replaced.

According to the patent details it was patented in 1927 by Wilson Henry Sturge under the grand title of "Improvements relating to automatic winding devices for electrical cables, cords or the like".

It has a central ball that contains a wooden sprung drum around which the cable winds and unwinds as required. It appears to still work but being from the 1920's it is more temperamental than a modern electrical fitting would be.

The central ball is 80mm diameter and has a screw thread around the equator to give access to the workings inside.

Overall it is a very interesting example of a vintage electrical fitting. Although it is most likely still fully working it is sold as a collectors item only and should be checked by an electrician if you want to use it.

Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects, but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.

Postage is for UK only, please enquire for overseas postage.
