An excellent road atlas produced by the Co-operative Wholesale Society to advertise many of their products. It also includes what is described as a Motorist's & Cyclist's Compendium of England & Wales.
The booklet includes 37 pages of maps plus a key map as an index, town plans of major cities and road profiles of principal routes between cities. It also includes information on road signs, lighting up times, ferries and toll roads, plus a list of CWS factories etc.
There is no publication date but looking at the overall design I would guess it dates from the 1930's or 40's.
On the cover it says that it was "issued with the compliments of the Co-operative Wholesale Society" and so I assume that this was a free gift for customers.
It is 185 x 125mm in size and has 64 pages inside card covers.
The staples are rusted but in place, the centre page has become detached but has been reglued. Name of previous owner in pencil on 1st page. Some marking to covers but overall it is in pretty good condition.
Not sure how useable it is today as the road network has changed since the book was published but would be ideal as an accessory for classic car owners.
A really good piece of advertising for the CWS.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects, but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
