This ashtray in described on the base as a Harwood's Self-seal ashtray, It has a sprung top to keep the smoke in.
It has a cream urea formaldehyde base and a black bakelite top, there is nothing to date it but I would imagine it is from the 1930's or 40's
There is the name Hollis Bros Ltd on the front and I think this is the timber company who had various works around the country including Leicester and Hull. I would imagine that this ashtray was a promotional item given out to the company's customers.
The ashtray is 150mm diameter and 70mm high. It can be opened by unscrewing the two halves of the cream base section.
It appears to have hardly been used and is in very good condition.
