These cards, showing scenes around the Mediterranean, were issued by Nicolas Sarony and were included in packets of their Silk Cut, Virginia Cigarettes.
The album is headed "Ten thousand miles by sea and land".
They date from 1926 and feature the various important cities and other sights in the countries bordering the Mediterranean.
They are a full set of 50, each card has a picture of one of those cities or sights.
These pictures are copies of paintings that were commissioned specifically for this set of cigarette cards. Alongside each card is a brief description of the view and is the same as the description on the back of the card. The centre spread of the album is a map of the Mediterranean showing the route taken and the location of each card.
The cards are in the original album produced for the set and the pages are held into the album with rafia binding.
This set features the larger size of card which are approx 7.7 x 6.3cm and each card is glued into the album.
There is some foxing to the pages of the album but the cards themselves are unaffected and in good condition.
