An unusual old piece of electrical equipment, a pocket electric comb. This was obviously the 'must have' item for all hairstyle conscious ladies of the time.
Sold by G Evans of Duke Street, London it comprises a small phenolic tube from which protrude a pair of steel combs. Inside the tube was a battery that heated the comb, so presumably it dried the hair as you combed. The instructions in the box recommends the use of their setting lotion so presumably that helped to give the waves that ladies required.
I am not sure how old this is but the stamp on the box was issued between 1912 and 1924.
The overall size of the main tube of the comb is 95mm, including the end caps, and 22mm in diameter. The teeth project 25mm from the body of the comb.
The comb overall is in good condition but I have no idea whether it works or not.
There is some marking on the barrel, see photos. The box is a bit grubby but intact.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects, but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
