Two lovely holiday leaflets for Brighton & Hove. Published by the Brighton & Hove Corporation to publicise the towns. Both are 4 page gatefold leaflets.
The first has a very striking design to the front and back covers with equally striking illustrations inside. The text is singing the praises of Brighton with quotations from popular magazines of the time. The inside illustration has the initials S.B.
The second is rather more subdued with less strong colours to the illustrations. This leaflet is advertising Hove as well as Brighton. The front cover illustration has the name of Southby Bramwell, who seems to have painted several illustrations for Brighton publicity material. The back cover features a British Rail advert. The 1st class fare from London was 22/6 with the Brighton Belle Pullman car supplement of 3/-.
There are no dates on the leaflets but investigations into Southby Bramwell showed that he was painting between 1960 and 1970, given the style of the illustrations I would think that these are from the early period of his work.
Size when folded 225 x 92mm, and when fully extended 225 x 368mm. slight wear is evident and very small areas of foxing on the paler of the two leaflets but overall they are in good condition.
These are two very stylish leaflets for the resorts.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects, but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
