This is the original rates assessment book for Boulstone in Herefordshire for the years 1902 and 1903. This is an old spelling for the village now known as Bolstone.
The book gives details of all the properties in the area, the names of the owners and tenants and the rates due on the properties. At the time there were 39 rateable properties. From the book it appears that the Earl of Chesterfield was a major land owner at the time.
Rates were also charged to the Great Western Railway for their line through the Parish, which was originally part of the Hereford, Ross & Gloucester Railway, although there was no station actually in the Parish.
There are 13 pages plus the leatherette covers. It has been audited by the District Auditor and is signed by the Overseers Henry Williams and John Harris. There a couple of other signatures but I cannot read these
Size when unrolled 390 x 180mm. It has been rolled for some considerable time and so it has to be weighted down to lie flat. There is some wear to the covers and to the title page but the main pages are all in good condition.
A very good item for anyone interested in the history of the area or Herefordshire generally.
