This blotter was issued by Thomas Firth of 30 Upper Charles Street, Leicester. They were suppliers of haberdashery, buttons, trimmings, lining etc etc and according to the blotter the company was proprieter E H Muddimer. The blotter was made by The Osborne Co Ltd, London.
It has an illustration by Dudley Buxton of a sailor with the caption "Cheer up! Things are not as black as they look", which suggests that it was a possible wartime issue. The sailor is wearing a hat band from HMS Vixen. This may help to date the blotter as this ship was in service from 1902 to 1919.
Size 235 x 97mm. There is some rounding to the corners but overall it is in good condition. The pink blotter on the back is virtually unused.
A very interesting item for collectors of Leicester ephemera or blotters generally.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects, but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
