This is a good monochrome postcard of Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn in Nottingham. The Inn is reputed to be the place where pilgrims gathered on their pilgimage to Jerusalem and is also claimed to be the oldest Inn in England.
The card shows the Inn set below the cliff of Nottingham Castle and the Inn does extend into caves below the castle.
On the rear of the card is a short history of the Inn and this claims that it was used by Crusaders as a stop on their way to fight in the Holy Land. This uses up all the space intended for the message by the sender.
The publisher is not named but on the front of the card it does have the name of the proprietor, Harry Ward, who was the publican between 1922 and 1925 and so it was probably him who published the card.
It is in good condition.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
