These cards show famous footballers from the year 1928 and were issued in packets of John Players Cigarettes in that year.
It uses the title football in its widest sense as the players shown are from Association Football as well as from Rugby Union and Rugby League teams. There are 39 Association Football players included in the set and 11 Rugby players.
They are a set of 50, each card has a colour picture of a player in action on the front and a brief description of their career to date on the back.
The set features players from a variety of clubs as well as internationals for England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
The cards are approx 6.5 x 3.5cm.
