A handbook issued by Dagenham Public Libraries to give their readers information about the libraries and how to use them. At the time Dagenham had 8 public libraries and a central headquarters, I wonder how many have survived?
The handbook gives information about how the libraries are funded, how they are run and the range of books and facilities etc that are available.
I am not sure whether their instructions on how to seek assistance would be acceptable today, "grab the first assistant that you see.....That is the simplest and best method"!
It is undated but reference books shown in the handbook are dated 1956 to 1958 and so I would think it was published shortly after.
The size is 215 x 140mm. There are 8 pages plus 4 pages of photographs and paper covers. The back cover shows a map of the Borough and the location of the various libraries. It has been used but is still in good condition.
Interesting item for collectors of Dagenham and Essex ephemera and also for anyone with an interest in libraries.
