This is a very unusual baby's rattle in the shape of a banjo. I do not know the age but it probably dates from the 1950's.
Coloured both pink and blue it was obviously intended for use by both boys and girls. It is hollow and inside there is something to make a rattling sound. It is made from what I think is hard 'nylon' type material.
It was made by Rosedale under their Tudor Rose Brand. Interestingly it says Made in England on the back although according to the V & A Museum Rosedale were a Welsh company.
The rattle is approximately 142mm long, 54mm across and 20mm thick.
There is some cracking and crazing of the plastic and it has been chewed by a baby at some stage but despite this it it is still in pretty good condition.
This is definitely a toy for the 'grown up child' and is NOT suitable to give to babies.
