This is an old flour bag advertising Fdk. Tuck & Son of Weston, Towcester, Northants. They are described as High-Class Bakers, Confectioners and Pastrycooks. Apparently Bride Cakes were a speciality.
The bag has an illustration of a windmill although I doubt if they were also flour millers. The bag is for 3½ pounds, which as a quarter of a stone would be logical
The bag is undated. There is no phone number and so it must pre-date the wide use of telephones. Also the use of the term Bride Cakes as opposed to Wedding Cakes is interesting.
At a guess I would date the bag to just after WW1.
The size is 325 x 135mm and of heavy paper. No damage, although on the back there is the ghost image of the bag it must have been stored on top of.
A very interesting piece of Northamptonshire ephemera which will also be of interest to collectors of bakery ephemera.
Please note. I do my best to accurately photograph and describe the condition of the items for sale, including any minor defects but all pieces are vintage and have had previous lives and so may have minor flaws.
